Mode Coupling in Electromechanical Systems: Recent Advances and Applications

Mode interactions have recently become the focus of intense research in micro/nanoelectromechanical systems (M/NEMS) due to their ability improve device performance and explore frontiers fundamental physics. Understanding controlling coupling between vibrational modes are critical for development advanced M/NEMS devices. This review summarizes recent advances studies multiple resonators, focusing especially on experimental developments practical applications. First, depending spatial distribution interacting modes, this divides coupled mechanism three types: intermode, near-neighbor, long-range coupling. Then, several physics approaches based mechanical-mode coupling, including linear nonlinear modal localization, synchronization, phonon manipulation reviewed. also introduces sensing applications by using mechanical modes. Finally, state-of-the-art open questions challenges
